Steven Evans is a commercial litigation attorney registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Evans is experienced in the strategic development of intellectual asset portfolios. Mr. Evans enforces and defends against claims related to patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. As a trial attorney, he has tried numerous jury cases, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.
In addition to his litigation experience, he has over 10 years of patent prosecution experience in both electrical and mechanical arts. His experience includes prosecution of patent applications, amendments, petitions, appeals, examiner interviews, re-examination and re-issue proceedings. He also has substantial experience preparing non-infringement, invalidity, validity, and product clearance opinions, and negotiating license and joint development agreements with national and international corporations. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Mr. Evans was a design engineer for NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Evans is a co-author of "Selecting an Appropriate Damage Expert in a Patent Case; An Examination of the Current Status of Daubert," 38 Akron L. Rev. 357 (2005).
Mr. Evans obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and he obtained his J.D. from Indiana School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana.
Mr. Evans currently teaches a class on patent law at the Waubonsee Community College in Aurora, Illinois. Mr. Evans is also a member of the Illinois Patent Law Association in Chicago (IPLAC) and the Chicago Bar Association. He also is an active member of both the Naperville and Aurora Chambers of Commerce.
